07. A Cartoon From An Alternate Universe

[adult swim] is a cable network that operates in Cartoon Network every night at 8:00 p.m. to  6:00 p.m. (EST & PST) and this network caters to young adults and adults as well (hence the word ‘adult in their name, watch out KND). Unlike shows in Cartoon Network, shows in [adult swim] are not heavily censored and usually have innuendos and adult humor (it is for adults after all). I remember when I was a little girl, I would stay up late just to watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force because I really find the talking fries and soda cups adorable. I didn’t get their humor though, English isn’t my first language and how was I supposed to know it wasn’t marketed for kids.

[adult swim] has a new addition to their lineup of cartoons. I’m talking about Rick and Morty. This (not so) new cartoon is like a breath of fresh air to me. It’s something new and entertaining. I’ve always adored science but procrastinating made science hate me. And with this show, it’s like I’m doing science and being entertained as well. Of course most of the science there are mostly fictional but it’s sci-fi vibe is what I really like.

Rick and Morty is about an eccentric alcoholic scientist named Rick who disappeared in his daughter’s life for over 20 years and then he just appeared like magic in his daughter, Beth’s, life and decided he will live with her. Beth’s husband, Jerry, is not comfortable with the fact that Rick is going to live with them. He isn’t comfortable of the things Rick does to them, he uses their garage as a science work shop, he creates unusual gadgets that often turns into something really dangerous, and the thing Jerry is really concerned about is the fact that Rick takes his children, Morty and Summer, into an out-of-this-world adventures in different places in the universe and alternate universe using a portal he invented.

The series is in progress of making its 3rd season and so far my favorite episodes are Anatomy Park and the Pilot episode. I really laughed my ass of these episodes (of course I did on the others but Anatomy Park and the Pilot made me laugh even harder) because the introduction of new characters is taking place. In the pilot episode, it is introduced that the principal in Morty’s school is named Principal Gene Vagina and their school is called Harry Herpson High School. I know it’s a very shallow joke but I really find it very funny.

I am excited for the new season and I will be waiting for it!
